Strathearn Music Society Review – ADlibitum

Wed 16th September 2026

Come September, the beginning of Strathearn Music Society’s ‘Concerts in Crieff‘ season is eagerly awaited by local music lovers, and this year’s opening concert did not disappoint. Andrea (Violin) and Djordje (accordion) Gajic are well respected artists in their own right. Together they make up the duo ADlibitim – the name means ‘at one’s pleasure’ – and their performance certainly brought great delight to the assembled audience. From Arvo Part’s Fratres, by turns meditative and anguished, to Piazolla’s Grand Tango, we were taken on a musical journey. Andrea’s playing brought Vivaldi’s spring birds and winter storms right into the room, while Djordje’s performance of Bach’s famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor silenced any doubt as to whether the accordion can be a classical instrument. It certainly can be. Music from Albeniz, and Sarasate’s virtuosic Carmen Fantasy transported us to Spain, while Semyonov’s Don Rhapsody (a signature piece from the classical accordion repertoire) brought us a taste of Cossack folklore.

This was a concert full of colour and drama, played at a very high standard. The connection between the musicians, their instruments, and the audience, was palpable throughout. If this is the level of performance set for the coming season then Strathearn music lovers have much to look forward to.

Next Concert: Scholfield-Clarke Duo (Piano and Saxophone)
Wednesday 14th October, 2026, Crieff Parish Church
